Take and Give.. Sandy Brooks is singing lead. Slim Rhodes is doing the great, catchy guitar work. I think this has cross appeal to the 50’s Rock and Roll fans and rock fans in general. Very easily likable tune.

There’s A Party Goin’ On was Wanda’s 1961 rock+roll album, very rare. Along with general R+R songs there were two other “Party” songs as followups to Let’s Have a Party (not on the album): Man We Had a Party, and the title song, which was original. The first one had been around before as Did We Have a Party.
Here’s the groove:
1) Did We Have a Party by Billy Brown from 1957
2) Man We Had a Party by Wanda
3) There’s a Party Goin’ On by Wanda
4) Crash the Party by Benny Joy from 1959
None of these were hits.
Don’t buy a Wanda collection unless it has all 3 party songs.
This album is available for download at Amazon.com.
The lead guitarist on this album was Roy Clark.
Let’s Have a Party was recorded in 1958 using Gene Vincent’s group The BlueCaps. The song was simply included on her country album “Wanda Jackson” (Capitol #1041). In 1960 there was the LP “Rockin’ With Wanda” which included her recent rockabilly singles, but all the songs were not pure R+R. Let’s Have a Party was released as a single in 1960 and reached #37, but wasn’t widely known at the time.
She was mainly Country in her career, only had the one r+r hit on the pop charts, and so is not currently in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. She’s still performing and singing well.
Did you know Elvis Presley was her boyfriend in their early careers.
A discography of her early rock+roll records can be seen at:

If you know the song, turn up your volume and sing along! Long live vintage American Rock and Roll!! Lyrics are in the video description box behind the “more info” link on YouTube. And remember, www.youtube.com is the website address where the complete collection of dwCrooner music videos can be found and viewed for free. Rock and Roll Music was written by Chuck Berry in 1957. It is a long-time favorite of mine that I covered just to have a little fun with. The lyrics are:
Just let me hear some of that
rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It’s got a back beat you can’t lose it
Any old time you use it
Gotta be rock and roll music
If you wanna dance with me (x2)
(V1) I’ve got no kick against modern jazz
Unless they try to play it too darn fast
And lose the beauty of the melody
Until they sound just like a symphony—ee
That’s why I go for that (chorus)
(V2) I took my loved one over cross the tracks
So she could hear my man wail a sax
I must admit they had a rockin band
Man, they were blowin like a hurri-can-an
That’s why I go for that (chorus)
(V3) Way down South they had a jubilee
Those Georgia folks they had a jamboree
They’s drinkin home brew from a dixie cup
And folks were dancin to Im All Shook Up-up
I started playing that (chorus)
(V4) Don’t care to hear them play a tang-go
Im in no mood to take a mam-bo
It’s way too early for a con-go
So keep a rockin that pi—an—no–hoe
That’s why I go for that (chorus)
