What’s the difference between Rock & Roll and Rock?

Posted by admin on April 13th, 2010 and filed under rock and roll | 17 Comments »

I’ve heard them being used interchangebly but I wanna know if there’s any social(what ppl think) or mechanical(how its played) differences

rock is simply the shortened version of rock and roll. about the early 70s the expression "rock" began to replace the term "rock and roll" in popular reference and some people may claim (mistakingly) that there is a difference, it’s all only rock and roll (but I like it !)

As far as I know Rock is just short for Rock & Roll.

About the same as Country and Country & Western, not much really. Just what certain people refer to it as. Perhaps that it’s faster to say Rock and Country than to refer to the whole shebang.

Nothing really. I have never used the term rock and roll when I talk about music. I simply call it rock.

well i always associated rock & roll with more 50’s do-op kinda stuff, but who knows i could be wrong. i mean you might call elvis rock & roll, but would you call pink floyd rock & roll. i wouldn’t, but again just my opinion.

R&R mite have been used when it first started like back in the days( 50s I think ) of Chuck Berry ,Chubby checker, Bo Diddly ect,etc because R&R was first started by African American and later caught on by Caucasians. Nowadays Rock & Roll music has evolved and is widely seen as " white" music and the name has kinda changed with the time too. Rock is just a modern day term for R&R and also I think it has to do with the tempo and lyrics because the music has gone from writing about love and all that to politics and other things.

well, in my professional opinion, (LOL. yeah, right.), Rock & Roll is all that ancient stuff that sounds like crap, like the beatles, the who, the monkeys, temptations, and more. rock is modern stuff, which is the greatest type of music. this consists of the all american rejects, (best band ever) greenday, red hot chili peppers, and more. rock also includes 70’s and 80’s stuff too. such as rush, kansas, the police, boston, ect.

i think the difference is age. When people say rock ‘n’ roll i think of classic rock like Led Zeppelin, but when people say rock i think more of current rock bands.
