Well I have to do a project on the history of rock n roll. a 10 page essay and a board. I just don’t know what to talk about in the essay and the board?! Any ideas. I know im doing a time line. But other than that i need topics to talk about on my board. Also what can I talk about in my essay?! Thank you!

Early 60’s: British Invasion, Pop/Punk
Late 60’s: Psychodelic
Early 70’s: Heavy Metal Roots
Mid 70’s: Glam Rock
Late 70’s: Hard Rock/Early Glam Metal

Mid 80’s-Early 90’s: Glam Metal heyday/Heavy Metal

An idea for the essay could be how rock has evolved, and how each new phenomenon is a direct reaction to the one before it.
Example:
Punk arose as a rebellion against bloated prog and disco
New Wave arose as a more stylish, accessible version of punk
Grunge arose as a rebellion against cheesy hair metal bands

Make sure you mention Elvis!
And maybe talk about how classic rock & roll developed into punk rock, heavy metal, etc.
Also, on your board, include pictures of Elvis, the Beatles, and maybe even All Time Low =]

Well theres so many things to mention in your essay. First you must mention Rock and Rolls roots… The Blues, Jazz, African Folk music. Then you must talk about musicians like Elvis, Cuck Berry, The Beatles and how they paved the way for Rock. Then you must talk about early rock bands like The Rolling Stones. Also the big Hippy and The Anti Vietnam War movement had an effect on bands. Make sure you mention Woodstock. Then 70s and how Rock N Roll took so many directions. A couple of very important bands from the 70s would be: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc. So many different styles were created in the 70s. Then came the 80s and the dreaded Glam Metal (no offense to fans of Ratt and Twisted Sister though
lol. There was also the Metal bands of the 80s (my favorite music time period) bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, Guns N Roses, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer just to name a few. Then we come to the early 90s where Grunge bands like Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and most recognizeable Nirvana killed Hair Metal for good. Then after that its hard to tell what was really hard to mention. Some famous deaths that you really should mention would be: Elvis, John Lennon from The Beatles, Randy Rhoades from Ozzy Osbourne, Jim Morrison from The Doors, Cliff Burton from Metallica, Kurt Cobaine from Nirvana, Dimebag Darrell from Pantera, Layne Stayley from Alice In Chains… and so much more. I have nothing to say other than the fact that mary thinks all time low should be mentioned in your time line is completely and utterly stupid. You can do something on how the grunge and alternative of the 90s managed to somehow turn into this pop bullshit we have today.

Definately mention Les Paul, inventor of the first solid-body electric guitar, that made rock possible.
Also express the attitude and rebellion that early rock was.

*sigh* I wish my teachers gave me cool projects like this.
First of all, the birth of rock and roll, jazz, 50’s, first real influencial artists. look up each decade in music and find the most important bands/artists, write about their music, their impact. Look up each genre and write a history of those, ie, the birth of punk in the 70’s, the birth of glam rock in the 80’s, the Beatle phenomenon in the 60’s and the bands who were overshadowed by them, Nirvana in the 90’s, why were they so important. Listen to different genres and eras of rock. There’s tons you can do.
