“An Incompleat History of Rock ‘n Roll: Episode One–The Fat Man”

Posted by admin on March 5th, 2010 and filed under history rock and roll | 13 Comments »

Welcome to the first episode of what David Wild of Rolling Stone has called “the most promising Web music series” of 2010. Created by Greg Mitchell, former editor at legendary Crawdaddy magazine and author of nine books, it offers a highly personal look at several decades of rock ‘n roll — from Elvis Presley to Elvis Costello. It opens with one of the oft-overlooked pioneers from New Orleans, Fats Domino. This is good. I always considered Rocket 88 to be the first all around R&B to R7R transitional song. But it looks like Fats Domino was right in the mix as well. That said, I do feel that the “Heart and Soul Bios” of R&R is very much still 99+ percent R&B.
