How about a paper on the origins of rock and roll?

The origins of rock, ultimately, is the spiritual songs sung by the slaves in slave days. This turned into the blues in the south in the early part of the century. The blues gave rise to jazz which is a whole different area of music from most. The blues also led directly to rock and roll music by way of rockabilly, the music elvis is famous for. Elvis inspired bands like the beatles, etc.. and there’s music history. That’s not all of it of course, just a hundred years squeezed into a few sentences. But I invite you to do some exploring and discover for yourself the great history of american music.

Or you can do a paper about the most famous rock concert in music history: Woodstock. Find out about woodstock if you are interested in the greatest ever rock concert/music festival in history.

need some help for history of rock and roll :D?

Posted by admin on March 18th, 2010 and filed under history rock and roll | 3 Comments »

TRUE OR FALSE :
1. Before it was known as Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues music was often referred to as ‘race music.’
2.Prior to the development of Rock and Roll young people generally listened to the same music as their parents
3.Pop music radio stations in the early 50s did not compete with Rhythm and Blues radio stations for listeners
4.Compared to Rhythm and Blues singers white pop music singers were far less concerned about the emotional energy of their performances.
5.Rockabilly music was created at Chess Records in Chicago.

1) FALSE. Even though I’m only 29, I am an expert on this era of music. Rock & Roll is a combination of Black Music, which included: Blues, Jump Blues, Jazz, & Boogie-Woogie all better know as "Race Music" & White music which was basically County, Western Swing, Blue Grass, all of which were called "Hillbilly Music", as well as other musical influences, but those are the primary influences. Rock n Roll is NOT BLACK MUSIC. and I’m a BLACK woman saying this, I do not care how many black people want to rewrite history, Rock and Roll is a combination of both cultures. Rock n Roll is the marriage of Black and White music and culture equally.

2) TRUE

3) TRUE. Pop Music in the 1950’s was geared toward white people. Rhythm & Blues (it wasn’t called that in the 1950’s but I know what you mean) was geared toward black people. There were exceptions, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Lena Horne, Sammy Davis Jr, and others (but these were about the most popular) each were black artists that appealed to both the white & black community.

4) TRUE & FALSE. Stop saying Rhythm and Blues, that genre of music did not exist in the 1950’s it started in the late 1960’s, although has it’s roots in the 1940’s. But to answer your question, True and False. Most black singers of the day showed more emotion in their music, because they sang of tough times, and you could feel it in their words and voice. White American singers, sang with less emotion, but with more romance. White Latin singers of the day (Italian & Spanish mostly) sang with both a lot of emotion and a lot of romance.

5) FALSE. Rockabilly has absolutely no ties, at all, to Chess Records nor Chicago. Chess Records was where Chuck Berry & Bo Diddley, among others, recorded their songs. Rockabilly started at Sun Records in Memphis Tennessee.

The Ramones in rock n roll history?

Posted by admin on March 16th, 2010 and filed under history rock and roll | 9 Comments »

in your mind what is the importance of the ramones in the history of rock n roll? i say the ramones were a breath of fresh air because the music at the time were loaded up with fuckin 20 minutes guitar solos, huge pyrotechnics and other meaningless things. in my mind its retarded. i say just rock dont show off. the ramones were inovative in my mind because they had standard verse, chorus, verse, chorus two minute songs, no guitar solos, just up in your face rock. the inventors of punk rock in my mind. what is your opinion on the ramones?

yea, i like those 20 minute guitar solo things, but only sometimes… ahhhhh…the ramones, my second fav band :)

most people think that the ramones stick to verse chorus and all songs are two minutes with no solo’s. but they ventured furthur than that in quite a few songs…you’d be surprised, and it still sounds sooooo punk rock!!!

go on youtube and search the song "chinese rock"!!! it has some lead guitar on it. and rock and roll high school has some surf rock solo’s.

they went on to influence many bands like rancid, green day, motorhead etc…

rip johnny joey and dee dee
rip CBGB’S…the birthplace of the ramones!

What is some early history of Rock and Roll?

Posted by admin on March 14th, 2010 and filed under history rock and roll | 3 Comments »

How did it begin?
What social factors influenced this music?
Why was this music so popular?
What Bands/Musicians were influential and how?

xo

1. long story short, black men were playing the blues and then it went electric and popular. white people began picking up on it, both races were going for an exciting and new sound and it got huge.

2. many baby boomers grew up listening to these records and were heavily influenced by them. they made their own brands of rock and many of them are seen as legends today.

3. again, i’d say the baby boom is to blame. when they hit their teens the counterculture movement was in full swing and they wanted something that would make them different from their parents.

4. robert johnson, willie dixon, blind lemon jefferson – influential early blues players created the foundation for modern rock music

bo diddley, chuck berry, little richard – early rock and roll artists

eric clapton, the beatles, the who, jimi hendrix, pink floyd – hopefully you know where these guys stand
