Who do you think made the best rock and roll in the 50s?

Posted by admin on March 26th, 2010 and filed under 50s rock and roll | 8 Comments »

My vote goes to Buddy Holly.

There were so many! Bill Haley and the Comets who started it all. Roy Orbison who is still a legend. Elvis? But I think I will agree, Buddy was one of the greats although I prefer the crooning of Orbison, who stole his style from the old black master song story tellers. However, when I read your question, "Wake up little Susie" by the Everly Brothers started running through my head. And one can never forget the fabulous Mr. Chuck Berry… or Fats Domino.

Which group was NOT anti Rock and Roll in the late 50s?

Posted by admin on March 22nd, 2010 and filed under 50s rock and roll | 3 Comments »

Parents

‘Folkies’

Record companies

Government

They all were anti! It was still a commercially unproven concept, so precious few Record Companies were that interested. Look at the Charts at that time- Jim Reeves, Doris Day, Frank Sinatra etc etc. Ballads, Movie Songs, Crooners etc, with the odd bit of Buddy Holly, Elvis and Bill Haley, and the money was in the former sectors.

Thank your god it changed, but that is another answer.

What are some popular dances of the 50s and 60s in the genres of soul, blues, rock n roll, jazz and r&b?

I would like to take dance instruction in the old styles of soul, blues, rock n roll, jazz and r&b. What are some popular dances from the 50s and 60s in these genres. Further, what genres would the slide, the slop, the funky chicken, the monkey, the fly, the jerk, mashed potato, the twist, the camel walk, the shimmy, applejack, hand jive and the quiver be categorized under. Are there dance instructors who would continue to teach these styles today?

Great Rockabilly / 50’s Rock and Roll – Slim Rhodes

Posted by admin on March 20th, 2010 and filed under 50s rock and roll | 25 Comments »

Take and Give.. Sandy Brooks is singing lead. Slim Rhodes is doing the great, catchy guitar work. I think this has cross appeal to the 50’s Rock and Roll fans and rock fans in general. Very easily likable tune.

Rock N roll bedroom theme?

Posted by admin on March 16th, 2010 and filed under 50s rock and roll | 3 Comments »

We are moving into a new house pretty soon and i need ideas for a rock and roll theme bedroom. but i don’t want 50s rock or anything like that. i can paint my walls and everything but im not sure what to do.
i have an electric guitar and i thought of covering my room with posters but i don’t know.

any ideas please help
thanks!=)

I like the idea of the black wall and the other ones white….very dramatic. Maybe throw in some vibrant red accents like pillows and curtains. Go to your local thrift store or flea market and buy some old record albums. Hang the records and then hang the covers with a frame around them. It might be hard to find a real frame to fit, so you could paint one. Maybe use an old drum for a table.Draw musical notes as a border on the white wall using black paint.

when did the 50s style of rock and roll come to an end?
